No one can argue that we love our pets. But when playful antics or everyday activity wears and tears the flooring down in the house, pet ownership can quickly get frustrating. While protecting flooring can seem tricky, there are some useful tricks to know to keep your floors looking great with pets in the home.

Area Rugs: Area rugs can be a savior in high traffic areas as they can be removed and cleaned if a mess does occur.

Keep Pets Clean: Clean and properly groomed pets won’t bring in extra dander or dirt, resulting in cleaner floors for longer.

Seal Sub Flooring: Seal the sub flooring prior to flooring installation to keep the sub floor from absorbing lingering pet odors.

Clean Regularly: Vacuum at least once a week, more if your pet sheds or if you have more than one animal. This will help reduce hair, dander, and dirt that is lying around. Also, after a pet has an accident, be sure to absorb all moisture out of the carpet before you attempt to clean it.

Trim Pet’s Nails: If you have wood flooring you know the damage that can be done from sharp nails, so clip your pet’s nails regularly. Also, if Fido gets excited when the doorbell rings, keep him in a separate room when you know visitors are coming to avoid further scratches to the floor.
